About PSI
Our Mission
Project for School Innovation (PSI) cultivates grassroots networks for public district and charter school educators to share their successes and drive school change.
We believe school reform does not lack for good ideas – but for
innovative connections that allow educators to replicate good practices across
different systems, schools, and classrooms. To meet this need, PSI deliberately
builds relationships and disseminates knowledge among district and charter
school educators. We provide the infrastructure for teachers and principals to
reflect on their work, document their success, and lead their colleagues in building
effective schools.
Our Vision
One day, all educators will be part of a supportive, innovative profession. They will learn what works from their talented colleagues and gain confidence because they are respected as professionals. They will thoughtfully implement the most effective practices available and help one another to continually improve the quality of teaching and school leadership.
Our History
PSI was founded in 2000 by the Neighborhood House Charter School, a K-8 public school in Dorchester, MA, to encourage excellent public schools -- often isolated from their peers -- to become mentors, supporting and leading their colleagues to success. Since 2000, some of PSI's notable accomplishments include:
- Convened 30 intensive Support & Study Groups for over 240 professional educators
- Published 17 teacher-authored guidebooks on effective practices
- Distributed over 5,000 books and DVDs to educators nationwide
- Presented at 24 local, state, and national conferences
- Supported the development of 35 school action plans for implementation
