| Look Inside: Table of Contents Book (117 pp.) |
Description
Portraying Identity Through Art is a source book developed by real classroom teachers featuring case studies from their experience, accompanied by practical, proven strategies for middle-grade visual arts instruction. This book offers a collection of case studies and pearls of wisdom from five middle school visual arts teachers from Boston area public schools who participated in PSI's Support Network for Innovative Classrooms during 2005-2006. These teachers met monthly to collaboratively review, research, and apply new methods of teaching students to express their identity through art. This book documents lessons that came out of those discussions.

Case studies on the relationship of Identity to Culture, Individuality, Family, Points of View, and Artistry. Guiding Concepts to frame art and identity; Teaching Strategies for working with students effectively; Teachers' Tools to build student ability to express identity through art; and an appendix of source materials.
